My choice of wood is the white pine. Other species can be used but may either take more work due to the hardness of the wood or may crack in an unusable fashion. Since it is carved in a natural log it is likely that some cracks may occur. Some contend that these cracks add character; others prefer it be repaired which can be done in several ways to give an acceptable result. The majority of the work is done with different size chainsaws with the final touches done with sanders and dremels.
